When did you start CrossFit and do you remember your first workout?

I was introduced to it about 3 years ago, but I only stuck with it for about 2 months.  I started at Odin in June of 2015 and it has been such a great experience.  Part of finding a good box is the vibe you get, and Odin feels like home.  My first workout involved front squats and I was sore for a couple of days.

What is your favorite workout and/or CrossFit movement?

Wall balls...just kidding...wall balls can die a peasant's death.  Deadlifts are my jam.

What changes have you seen in your health and fitness since starting CrossFit?

Besides my short bursts of exercising for a month or so at a time, I have been living a very sedentary lifestyle since I got out of the ARMY in 2006.  I gained a BUNCH of weight, and about 2 years ago I got diagnosed with Type-2 Adult Onset Diabetes.  I swore to the doctor that insulin wouldn't become an option and really got my butt in gear last June.  As of the New Year, I'm 40 lbs lighter and my Doctor just took me off all my diabetes medication.  The Crossfit regime fits well with my workout mentality and it is hard to envision my fitness journey without Crossfit being a part of that.

Have you noticed any changes in your life outside of health/fitness that you attribute to working out at ODIN?

Going to ODIN has made me a better person, physically and mentally.  I have more energy and tend to challenge myself to try different things and set higher goals.

What does ODIN mean to you?

Odin is more than a gym, it's a family, especially with my fellow early birds.  My brothers and sisters come together each week to achieve goals and we are all there to support each other.  You'd be hard-pressed to find another place like Odin when choosing a gym.  My Odin family commends me when I kick ass on a WoD and they are also there to motivate me when a WoD goes bad and I feel at my lowest.  Crossfit is a giant mountain and Odin is base camp.  We all progress towards different peaks and adjust our goals as we climb higher and higher.  My journey up the mountain has begun and the Odin family continues to help me climb that mountain as I try and ascend to a fitness level that I never thought I could be at.  I get asked by friends if I drink the kool-aid.  My only response is Hell Yea, by the gallon!!...and it is glorious!!
