Picking an athlete of the month is a really fun, but really challenging job. There are so many amazing people at ODIN, it makes it hard to choose! This month, I thought, "Who is always smiling and positive?". Nick came to mind right away! Nick is always in a great mood, he is always positive, he always works hard and cheers for others. He is a 5:30am staple and should be applying for approval to get the 5:30am tattoo soon! Wanna know his time on the whiteboard? Look for the Koran lettering. His nickname is Orack-Orack. Read on to learn a little more about Orack-Orack:
Tell us more about you. What might the average person at the gym not know about Nick?
I grew up in the Frederick area and I now work here too. I went to Virginia Tech and my passion in the workplace is programming. I can pretty much build anything with my hands. One of my other passions in life is the outdoors. I have been rock climbing for almost 15 years. I have a lab mix named Dixie. We try to go in as many adventures together as we can with whomever else is interested. I love all the fun things. :-)
What was your first CrossFit workout? What do you remember about that day?
Haha, it is a little hazy but I believe it was a AMRAP with pull ups, wall balls, DUs, and maybe Cleans. It was about 2 years ago at the Patrick St. location. It was tough, but not too hard. I just wasn't ready to commit yet.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
I have been going regularly since the end of October 2015.... So about 6 months. I did go for about 8 sessions about 2 years ago at the old place, but that doesn't really count.
How has CrossFit changed your life?
With my competitive personality and the need for intensity, Crossfit fits the bill. I have been working out, running and playing sports my whole life and going to a globo gym just doesn't keep my attention anymore. Crossfit is something that is constantly changing and works perfectly with what I need to stay active and have a blast at the same time.
What is your favorite workout or movement?
Tough question, but I like the Clean and Jerk movement. I feel like it really defines the overall performance of barbell lifts. I really like body weight stuff too like pullups, push-ups, dips, muscle-ups, ect. Even though I can't do too many of them.
Hahaha... Easy...Burpees. It's a long way down and an even farther way up.
What does ODIN mean to you?
Beast mode. Family. Fun.
