I’ve been asked in the past to do another CrossFit Defense class, and with my current schedule it can be difficult to fit it in, but THIS SATURDAY, we are making it happen. I think the last course we had was close to a year ago in the old facility. Some of you may be asking what is this course? What will we be learning? Is is a martial art? etc…
Hopefully this post answers a few of those questions, and I hope you decide to come to the class. First of all CrossFit Defense is based on Tony Blauer’s S.P.E.A.R System (Spontaneous Protection Enabling Accelerated Response). That is the fancy way of saying it is based on the body’s natural flinch response to protect itself.
The S.P.E.A.R. System is not “Martial Arts” based. It is reliable (non-perishable) gross motor system that works during high stress encounters. This is a behaviorally researched, close quarter method that utilizes the body’s natural flinches and natural body mechanics, which allow you to effectively respond to a sudden, explosive encounter. “The S.P.E.A.R. System is the study of human movement as it relates to violence, fear, and aggression.” – Official BTS Definition.
We will be doing drills to enhance your physical response to a close quarter confrontation. You will be introduced to emotional, psychological and physical tools that will help you survive an ambush attack.
This class will be part “sitting around and discussing”, and hopefully a lot of practical exercises with a Defense WOD at the end to tie everything together. The class will probably last longer than an hour, but I hope to be done within two hours. That is the basics, I hope you decide to come Saturday. I think you will have fun
